Global Warming

Ok, so I'm getting really tired of Nature Nazis and their B.S. rants about Global Warming :O! Here is a short list of some of their claims and the facts to respond to them with. These are from "Conservative Comebacks to Liberal Lies" by Gregg Jackson. Each response is elaborated on, has been proven and can be referenced.

Claim#1: "Global warming is occurring and is the result of human activity. It emits dangerous greenhouse gasses, causing surface air temperature and subsurface ocean temperatures to rise, which threatens to destroy the environment."

Response: Carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas produced by burning fossil fuels, is not a toxic pollutant.

Claim #2: "If global warming gets worse, the environmental effects will be devastating."

Response: There is no conclusive evidence "global warming" is anything other than natural temperature variations which existed before mankind and hve very little to do with man-made fossil fuel emissions.

Claim #3: "Signing the Kyoto Treaty won't devastate the economy as conservative Republicans claim."

Response: In order to achieve the reductions of carbon dioxide emissions the Kyoto agreement requires, the United States would have to reduce its projected energy use by about 25 percent.

Claim #4: "Kyoto will stop global warming."

Response: Only severe reductions in global CO2 emissions-on the order of 60 percent or more-will alter the computer forecasts.

Claim #5:
"Increased human economic activity is causing massive environmental pollution and damage."

Response: Major pollutants declined 25 percent.

Claim #6: "We are running out of oil and face a global energy crisis."

Response: We are not running out of oil. Oil reserves are growing.

Claim #7:"Drilling Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) will cause environmental degradation and will kill wildlife."

Response: Drilling in ANWR will make us less dependent on Middle Eastern oil and can be accomplished in an environmentally friendly way.

Claim #8: "Democrats are the party of the environment."

Response: Democrats advocate extreme positions on environmental issues, even when it financially harms the poor.

Claim #9: "Our planet is grossly overpopulated."

Response: There's plenty of room for everyone.

Claim #10: "Nuclear Power is too risky and potentially hazardous to the environment."

Response: Currently 103 nuclear power plants supply 20 percent of our electricity in the U.S.

Claim #11: "Deforestation is primarily the result of Western capitalistic plundering and is an enormous threat to the environment."

Response: There are more acres of forestland in America today than when Columbus discovered America in 1492.

Claim #12: "We need to preserve the environment by setting aside federally-controlled parks and ecosystems, making them off limits to humans."

Response: The environment doesn't always manage itself well. Fires can easily destroy land when humans have no access to them to save them.
